Here is a quick summary of some of the thousands of bits of work Mohammed, Sarata and I have worked on over the years.

 

Fighting Crime and Making the Area Safer

  • Cameras: Beeston Hill United Free Church and Hunslet Church of the Nazarene, and Brick Street and Church Walk in Leeds City Centre.

  • Police Action: Worked with police to close drug dens across Beeston, Hunslet and Leeds City Centre, and stop trouble at Garnets Pocket Park and other greenspaces.

  • Safer Nights: Stopped shops on Dewsbury Road from selling alcohol all night and secured a cumulative impact area across Beeston Hill and Hunslet Moor.

  • Illegal Camps: Built barriers at Moor Road and Grove Road Field to stop illegal camps, and other locations.

  • Road Safety: Put up fences near Hunslet Carr Primary to stop quad bikes driving on the path and the Royals.

  • River Safety: provided funding for safety ropes along the river.

Better Parks and Green Spaces

  • Park Fixes: Upgraded play areas at Hunslet Lake, Brickfield, Church Street, Hunslet Moor, Cross Flatts, with more planned.

  • New Gardens: Completed Phase 1 of Hunslet Square and a new park at Beza Street.

  • More Trees: Planted big trees in parks across Beeston Hill, Hunslet Moor, Pepper Road, with a dozen other locations.

  • River Clean-Up: Helping clean the river and removing bad graffiti near Leeds Dock.

  • Growing Food: Paid for the Edible Estate project in Hunslet.

Cleaner Streets

  • Stopping Mess: Closed dirty bin yards in Beeston Hill to stop rats and rubbish.

  • Fines: Fined people for dumping rubbish near Morrisons and KFC.

  • More Bins: Put new litter bins in Beeston Hill, Hunslet, and City Centre housing areas.

  • Community Help: Bought litter-picking kits for community groups like Masjid Ibraheem on Woodview Road, and provided kit grants.

  • Street Art: Made legal walls for graffiti art in the City Centre to stop tagging elsewhere, and across Beeston and parts of Hunslet

Helping Our Community

  • Building Repairs: Paid for repairs at KWMA Centre and other community centres.

  • Access for All: Help fun accessible toilets at St Luke's Cares and ASHA, plus a lift at Hamara Centre.

  • Saving Lives: Installed heart-start machines (defibrillators) across Beeston Hill.

  • Local Groups: Helped set up residents groups for Greenmount, Beeston Hill, and the Maltings.

  • History: Fixed up the Bile Beans sign and war memorials in Hunslet.

  • Local Pride: Put up Christmas lights in Hunslet Carr and on Church Street.

Housing and Travel

  • New Bridge: Supported the new David Oluwale bridge over the river.

  • Cycling: Added bike stands and benches to Dewsbury Road.

  • Safer Walking: Built a safer crossing point on Moor Road in Hunslet.

  • Noisy Neighbours: Stopped businesses in the City Centre from making too much noise.

  • Rule Breakers: Cracked down on holiday rentals (Airbnbs) that were breaking the rules.
