FIREWORKS ISSUES IN BEESTON

Over the past few weeks I’ve heard from so many residents, both while out door knocking and through messages, about the constant bonfires and fireworks going off late at night around Beeston Hill.
As someone who also lives in Beeston, I completely understand your frustration. Most nights after 10:30pm you can still hear fireworks going off, often carrying on well past midnight. This is unacceptable and it’s something that Cllr Paul Wray and I are actively working on with the police to find a proper solution.
For now, my advice to residents is to call the police whenever you hear fireworks being set off late at night. Let them know it’s impacting you and that it’s unsafe. The more reports they receive, the better they can target the issue and hopefully get straight out and find the people behind this.
Just a reminder that the law is clear. You must not set off or throw fireworks, including sparklers, in the street or any public place. Fireworks are not allowed between 11pm and 7am, except for Bonfire Night when the cut-off is midnight, and New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year when the cut-off is 1am.
We know Diwali was last week and fireworks were more frequent around that time, and I hope everyone celebrating had a lovely and safe festival. But what’s happening in Beeston has been going on for much longer than that and it needs to stop.
I’ll continue to work closely with the police, Cllr Paul Wray and Cllr Mohammed Iqbal to tackle this issue. I’m very determined to make sure this issue is resolved for the sake of everyone
In the meantime, please keep reporting it to the police, and if you have any idea who’s setting them off, pass that information on.
If you’re unsure what to do or need any advice, feel free to drop me a message or text on +44 7359 825662. I’m happy to help.
