🚗💨 PROPOSED CITY CENTRE 20MPH ZONE

Leeds City Council has a long-standing ambition to improve Transport and Infrastructure and Health & Wellbeing, and to make Leeds a Child Friendly City. The introduction of 20 mph speed limits is a core part of this ambition.

These speed limits are an integral component of the Council’s Safer Roads Action Plan and contribute significantly to the Vision Zero 2040 strategy, which aims for zero road deaths or serious injuries in Leeds by 2040.

Lower speed limits have significant benefits for road safety, contributing to the continued reduction in road casualties. They also enhance the wellbeing of communities and complement strategies for active travel modes such as walking and cycling.

4. Great George Street; from its junction with Calverley Street to its junction with Merrion Street.

5. Hunslet Road; from its junction with Dock Street to its junction with Waterloo Street and also from its junction with Crown Point Road to its junction with Sheaf Street.

6. Marshall Street; from its junction with Sweet Street West to its junction with Nineveh Road.

7. New Briggate; from its junction with Merrion Street in a NE direction to its junctions with North Street, New York Road and Vicar Lane.

8. Water Lane; from its junction with Bridge Road to a point 36 metres SW of its junction with Silver Street.

9. Wellington Street; from its junction with Northern Street, to its junction with Bishopgate Street

10. Wharf Approach; from a point 5.5 metres north of its junction with Canal Wharf to its termination.

11. Whitehall Road; from its junction with Thirsk Row to a point 77 metres SW of its junction with Northern Street
