What I've Been Upto Roundup

The last six weeks have been very busy and this is the first time I have had time to write a list of all the meetings and events I've attended that I haven't posted about already. This is six weeks worth, so it is quite long, and this I'm involved in etc.

On Saturday 4th of May, I attended the monthly Hunslet Church of the Nazarene Coffee Morning. This is every 1st Saturday from 10:00. I caught up with Mike the Minster and local parishioners.


I then had to go to Civic Hall to pick up some paperwork and, by chance, bumped into Jean-Louis from the Hunslet Gathering and had a conversation about how the church plan was going.


On Friday 2nd May, I had a catch-up with Stewart from Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association about their ongoing work.


I then met with Bruce from BasementArtsProject and as chair of the Garnets and Oakley’s Tenants and Residents Association, to talk about local art projects and plans for the TARA.


I then attended the Leeds Markets Board.


On Friday, 25th of April, I attended the Vera Media Directors Board in my role as Chair and received updates on the charity’s education work and future plans.


In the evening, I attended the Leeds Central Labour Party Constituency meeting and raised several questions to Hilary Benn MP.


On Thursday, 24th of April, I had a meeting about the upcoming men’s health roundtable with Damian from the Men’s Health Unlocked network. Later that evening I attended the Hunslet Carr Primary School Pupil Support Meeting.


On Wednesday, 23rd of April, I had a meeting with the Canal & River Trust about the removal of the bins at Leeds Dock, and later that evening I attended the FoodCycle West Yorkshire Community meal at St. Lukes Church, Holbeck. This is every Wednesday from 18:00.


On Tuesday 22nd of April, I dropped in to the South Bank Sanctuary Leeds Church Café and caught up with volunteers who run this and the food pantry. The café offers great value warm sandwiches and drinks, and residents can shop for 15 items of food for £4. The café and pantry are open every Tuesday and Sunday from 09:00.


I then attend the Leeds City Council and Groundwork Yorkshire Partnership Meeting at Leeds Civic Hall to hear about Groundwork's ongoing work in Leeds.


I finished the evening attending the Beeston Festival Committee meeting.


On Friday, 18th of April, I attended Aspin Hill for an Easter worship.


On Tuesday, 15th of April, I attended the joint Plans Panel Chairs Meeting to hear updates on changes to planning policy in Leeds and service delivery.


On Sunday, 13th of April, I attended the monthly Community Breakfast run by St Luke's Church. This is every 2nd Sunday of the month at 09:30.


I then attended the monthly community meal run by my Mosaic Church at Beeston Parish Church. This is also the 2nd Sunday at 16:00.


It was good to catch up with residents attending both.


On Thursday, 10th of April, I meet with some students doing a film on homelessness in the city and the support being given by the council.


On Thursday 8th, I attended the monthly Multi-Agency Tasking meeting with West Yorkshire Police - Leeds South to discuss ongoing issues across the ward and the work being done to address these.


On Monday, April 7th, I had meetings with the Safer Stronger Communities officers about the planned rollout of new tenants' and residents' associations and residents’ forums.


I then had my monthly catch-up with Housing Leeds managers to discuss outstanding projects, emerging issues, and long-term estate management.


This includes setting out a plan for quarterly big clean-up days on each estate and the quality of the estate walkabouts.


I then had meetings in the afternoon with management from Cleaner Neighbourhoods about how the service was handling my requests around problematic hotspots and mobbing from a reactive to a proactive stance.


On Thursday, 3rd of April, I chaired the South and West Plans Panel.


On Monday, 31st of March, I attended a meeting at The Hunslet Club about local antisocial behaviour in the area.


In the afternoon I attended an update on the developing Leeds Local Plan 2040, with a specific focus on the city centre.


I then attended the Leeds Co-op Party Leeds Branch Meeting about how we planned to promote more cooperatives and cooperative policies across the city.


On Friday, 28th of March, I attended the Leeds Central Constituency Labour Party and questioned Hilary Benn MP on a range of local issues.


On Monday, 24th of March, I had meetings with Safer Stronger Communities officers on community engagement, outstanding projects and future priority setting. I then attend the joint Plans Panel Chairs meeting for a variety of planning-related updates in Leeds.


I then dialled into an update meeting on LeedsBradford Airport, before finishing the evening attending the Labour Group for an update on council-wide work of the administration.


On Sunday, 23rd of March, I attended a community event at St Luke's Church to celebrate the diversity of the communities in Beeston and share a range of international foods.
