Following a meeting between senior Officers and Cllr Pryor, the Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Sustainable Development, the decision to permanent close the central reservation was approved.

The decision was taken after long and thoughtful reconsideration of all the other proposed solutions, and variants there of. The alternatives considered, included:

- Closing the central reservation at Tempest Road, re-opening the central reservation at Harlech Road and leaving the central reservation at Colwyn Road open.

- Closing the central reservation at Tempest Road, but removing segments either side to create a space to permit U-turns for traffic to/from Tempest Road.

- Providing double yellow lines in front of the businesses at the Tempest Road junction and stringently enforcing these.

- Installing 'Accident Blackspot' signage.

- Reducing the speed limit on Dewsbury Road to 20mph.

- Signalisation of the Dewsbury Road/Tempest Road junction.

- Re-opening the central reservation at the junction of Dewsbury Road with Trentham Street to enable greater accessibility into the residential area.

- Adjusting the road markings on Dewsbury Road, to create a single Leeds-bound lane at Tempest Road, enabling the give way junction to be moved further into the carriageway, improving sightlines.

- Trialling the closure of the central reservation and surveying to understand impacts on the local area.

In the professional view of Officers, the closing of the central reservation will resolve the ongoing and significant rate of traffic collisions at this location, and offered the best solution of all those proposed.

Highways Leeds anticipate the scheme to close the central reservation will be delivered over the summer months.

I know some residents will be disappointed with this decision, but their concerns have genuinely been listened to, and alternative solutions considered, but Officers came to different conclusion.
