A1 road Closure

We’re getting in touch with an update on some further improvements being carried out on the A1(M) and M1 near your area this month.

Over four weeknights between 17 and 22 September, we are replacing gantry signs, resurfacing the carriageway and replacing white lining and road studs on sections of these motorways near Leeds. We’re also carrying our deflectograph surveys in these areas. A deflectograph is an automated road condition survey vehicle that measures roads’ structural capacity.

These works are separate to the central barrier works currently taking place between the M1 at Parlington and the A1M at Grange Moor.

This will mean closing the A1(M) northbound between junctions 42 and 44, and on the M1 northbound between junctions 46 and where it merges with the A1M at Hook Moor.

We appreciate that, in the past, similar schemes where we have had to close the motorway in these areas have unfortunately seen additional traffic driving through Aberford, instead of using the official signposted diversions.

We have taken on board feedback and are working with the local authority to minimise this as much as possible. After consultation with Leeds City Council, a temporary ban is being placed on HGVs from driving on the following routes in Aberford:

Main Street

Bunkers Hill

Lotherton Lane

This ban on vehicles weighing 7.5 tonnes or more will be in place throughout the weeknight closures.

We’re working closely with our partners and the local community to minimise disruption caused in villages by our works and will constantly monitor the situation.

As always, if you have any questions, the project team is more than happy to answer them. If you would like any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact Daniel (cc’d) or myself on the details below.

Thanks again
