PENNY HILL CENTRE POST OFFICE CLOSURE

Many of you will know that we have received some concerning news regarding the Penny Hill Post Office at 9 Penny Hill Centre, Church Street.

Post Office Ltd has informed us that this branch is scheduled to close on Monday, 26 January 2026 at 17:00.

The closure is described as "unplanned" and is due to the resignation of the current postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

As your Councillor, I am deeply concerned about the loss of this vital service in the heart of our community. While the Post Office has suggested alternative branches at Victoria Terrace (0.9 miles away) and Beeston Hill (1.3 miles away), I know that traveling this distance is not feasible for many residents, particularly given the "varied terrain" and the need to cross-major roads.

The Post Office has stated they are "investigating the options available" to reinstate service.

However, I will be contacting Post Office Ltd immediately to:

- Highlight the negative impact this will have on Hunslet.

- Insist that they put every effort into finding a new local provider.

- Demand that this is treated as a matter of urgency to ensure any closure period is kept to an absolute minimum.

I will keep you updated as soon as I receive a response regarding their plans for future service provision in our area.
