Thank you to Jean-Louis from The Hunslet Gathering, and Mike from the Hunslet Church of The Nazarene, who both conducted today's memorial services, and for ensuring that the after remembrance service refreshments went well in my absence.
It was really heartening to hear from them that over 30 people attended the refreshments at the end of the services.
But it just didn't sit right with me not putting up my Remembrance Wreaths today, so I dragged myself out of bed and went to the memorials at Hunslet St. Mary's, the Hunslet Carr Welcome Wheel, Stourton, and Hunslet Cemetery to pay my respects to our honoured dead.
Tomorrow morning I'll place my remaining wreaths at the other locations in the ward that remember our lost heroes.
Remembrance matters. It reminds us of the sacrifices that so many paid so that we have the freedom to disagree, to be free from tyranny, and to be able to change who governs us not by who has the most power, or at the barrel of a gun weapons, but by a piece of paper, a pencil, a cross, and a ballot box.
