SARATA SAWO SELECTED TO BE THE LABOUR CANDIDATE

Congratulations to Sarata Sawo for being selected as the Labour candidate for next May's Local Election. I hope this will soon be followed by her selection as a Cooperative candidate as well.

Sarata has lived in the ward her whole life, attended her local school, and has got involved in community activities.

Her father is in the air force and has nurtured a strong sense of duty and commitment to others, something she lives by.

She is already a governor of two schools in the ward, Greenmount Primary and Ruth Gorse Academy, is a trustee at a number of charities, including The Leeds Community African Trust, and a volunteer organiser at Beeston Festival, and other events.

If elected, she will bring the experience of a new and younger generation into our decision making and vitally, that of women, something we lack since the loss of Alderwoman Nash.

Earlier this year Sarah did work experience with me and I was beyond impressed with her ability to pick up new things at speed, to grasp subtle but complex situations with ease, and her thoughtfulness and genuine concern for the wellbeing of others.

I look forward to campaigning for her and strengthening our local team, one that would truly be representative of the ward as a whole.
