🏠 Update: George IV Site & Upcoming Works

The Council Housing Growth Team, after years of lobbying by Mohammed and myself, is now move to the next phase of looking into including this site in the next phase of the council housing programme.
The Council Housing Growth Team, after years of lobbying by Mohammed and myself, is now move to the next phase of looking into including this site in the next phase of the council housing programme.

The initial proposal is to potentially build up to 10 one or two-bedroom apartments on the land.

What to expect next: To see if this is possible, you will see some activity on the site between February and April 2026. Teams will be carrying out surveys—some will involve checking the ground conditions, while others are just looking at trees, utilities, and topography.

Current activity: You may have already noticed some work happening on-site. The team has started clearing the vegetation that has grown back over the last year. They managed to get out there a bit earlier than planned, so that clean-up is underway now.

There is no guarantee work will progress, and previous ideas include a Sure Start Centre, with flats above, and the creation of a specialist substance abuse unit, which Mohammed and I blocked due to the concern of there being so many shops and venues selling cheap alcohol nearby.

I will keep you posted once the surveys are done and we know if the scheme is going ahead on this site.
