The work will start from 9 February and is expected to take up to three nights (with two additional nights of contingency). We are contacting you to inform you that you may be affected by some noise from site machinery, as we do this work near to your property. Access to your property is not affected.
The scheme is to remove and replace two defective joints crossing the north bound traffic lanes.
The scheme will include advanced works on 18 December 2025 for one night and will involve a lane closure. The main works are for renewal of existing joints, reinstatement of road markings and any other highway facilities affected by the works.
What times of day will these works be carried out?
The works will require the closures of one lane of the A639 north bound and south bound carriageway during the less busy hours at night, between 8.30pm and 6am. Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works period.
Why does this work have to be done at night?
There will be no works undertaken during day times as the route will be too disruptive and impact on bus services. There will be no road closures as the route is on a priority Stourton park and ride bus service needed to operate during the day.
What would happen if these works aren’t done?
The joints would deteriorate further, possibly leading to emergency repair and more lengthy road closures causing delays.
How will we deal with construction noise?
There will always be some level of noise whilst the advanced works and main road works are ongoing, we will endeavour to keep the noisy parts of the works to a minimum wherever possible. Some of the work will involve machinery that can be noisy, especially at the start of each shift. Wherever possible, we’ll aim to complete the noisiest work earlier in the evening before moving on to quieter activities.
