As you may know, a Snow Weather Alert has been issued by the Met Office which includes the Yorkshire area.

Whilst not all areas may see accumulating snow, accumulations of 5-10cm are likely quite widely, with scope for 15-25 cm in places, especially on some hills above 200 metres elevation. We understand that the current forecast for Leeds if for 2-3cm of snow to fall from this afternoon to midday tomorrow.

We have been gritting routes and refilling grit bins as business as usual and currently have a 75% stock levels of grit/salt at the three depots, plus 100% of the strategic store.

Information about gritting routes and grit bin locations can be found here at https://leedscc.maps.arcgis.com/.../webappv.../index.html...

Conditions can vary considerably and sometimes change at short notice. Check the weather forecast before your trip to determine if driving conditions will be safe. If conditions are severe, consider postponing your trip if possible.

• Reduce your speed and increase your following distance to give yourself more time to react to changing road conditions. Keep a safe distance from snowploughs and gritters.

• Remove snow and ice from all windows, mirrors, lights, and the roof of your vehicle for better visibility and to prevent flying debris.

• Be cautious of black ice, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas.

• If you’re heading out on two wheels in the dark, make sure you’re visible. Reflective items of clothing are best but light colours will also help others to see you.

• Pack a winter emergency kit with essentials like extra warm clothing, non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, a shovel.

If anyone needs to contact Leeds City Council with any particular issue, they should ring the Contact Centre on 0113 222 4444 who will be able to assist or direct to the appropriate department.
