I attended a site visit today with the Hunslet Club, Greenspaces and Asset Management to look at the condition of the site buffer vegetation – which is currently the responsibility of the Council.
Following the meeting, work has been approved to bring these areas back under proper control.
The overgrown footpath between The Oval and the Hunslet Club, which borders Aspin Hill, has overgrown by roughly 2m in depth and is obstructing the footpath.
This will be cut back by 2m, reducing the buffer to the 1m originally intended. This will make this path easier to use and enhance sightlines and safety.
The overgrown bushed areas that buffers the Hunslet Green Estate will be cut back up to 1 m on the Hunslet Club side, dead trees removed, and the overgrown grass will be cut back heavily to allow ease of mowing in future.
We know there are some antisocial behaviour issues in these bushes and consideration will be given to see if these issues can be built out or the overall site better secured on an evening.
These works should happen between now and the end of the year, subject to staff and equipment availability.
