 We all agree that this site must be redeveloped, but I have been adamant I will not support any proposal which sees the building demolished.

Hunslet has lost too much history, and I have always made it one of my key priorities as your local councillor to protect what we have left.

I'm very pleased to hear that planning officers have written to the owner to advise that the outline proposal they put forward, which would have seen the building demolished, will not be supported by officers.

This is very early in the planning process and new proposals that the owner wishes to press ahead with, regardless of the outline advice of officers, might still be put forward.

But it's good at this early stage that planning staff are setting a clear expectation: they expect the building to remain in some form.
